- "RHINELANDER - Robert L. 'Bob' Meekma, 80, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander. Bob was born in Racine on July 2, 1929, son of the late John and Alta (nee: Barrows) Meekma and was a longtime Racine resident until moving to Rhinelander in 1995. Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On December 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Sally M. Clausen, who preceded him in death on January 16, 1994. Bob cherished the 42 years he spent with Sally raising a and enjoying their close group of friends. Bob spent his entire career as a Journeyman Carpenter before retiring from Bukachek Construction. He always felt blessed to have earned a living doing what he loved. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening. He had a special talent for growing roses. Bob spent the past 16 years living on a lake in Rhinelander, in what he felt was God's country. Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his children, Sandra (Rodney) Duffek, Robert (Janis) Meekma, Lynn (Frank) Romano; his six grandchildren, Andrew Duffek, Peter, Elizabeth, and Benjamin Meekma, Jake and Zach Romano; sisters, Betty Simonsen, Jean (John) Hawes; brother- in-law, Kenneth Clausen; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Meekma. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 23, 2010, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Brad Van Fossen officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Thursday at the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. and Friday at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation have been suggested. ...
