- "John C. Kohnke of Clements, died Monday morning in Livermore Veterans Hospital after a short illness. He was 61. Kohnke was a Lodi native but lived in the Galt area most of his life, graduating from Galt High School in 1933. He served in the Army Medical Corps during WW II and was discharged with the rank of major. Kohnke and his brother, Otto, maintained a ranch in Galt and he ran the Old Corner Tavern in Clements with his wife, Agnethe. He is preceded in death by his twin sister, Amanda Loney. Kohnke was a past president of the Clements-Lockeford Lions Club and a former Clements volunteer fireman. He was a member of the Lodi American Legion Post 22.
He is survived by his wife and brother; two daughters, Mrs. Susan Lund of Lodi and Mrs. Donna Mae McGugan of Los Angeles; two sister, Mrs. Anita Tennison of Hawthorne, Nev. and Mrs. Alwina Vineyard of Acampo; and one granddaughter.
