- "Phyllis M. Graverholt was born November 19, 1925, on a farm in Cedar County to William and Lillie (Jones) Hinrichs. She was baptized April 4, 1934, at the Presbyterian Church in Laurel. She attended grade school at District #31 in Cedar County (where her parents also attended) and graduated from eighth grade in 1939. Phyllis moved with her parents to a farm north of Laurel in 1939, and graduated from Laurel High School in 1943. She was confirmed in September, 1948, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Laurel. She worked in Sioux City for a couple of years and later worked at the Laurel Creamery. Phyllis married Carsten Graverholt, February 28, 1948, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Parsonage in Laurel. She worked hard on the farm with her husband, raised a large garden, and did a lot of canning. Her hobby was crocheting, giving a lot of crocheted items and afghans to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed raising many kinds of flowers, baking pies, rolls, and buns for her friends. She moved to Norfolk in May, 2007, following the death of her husband of 59 years. She was a member of Christ The Servant Lutheran Church in Norfolk and a former member of United Lutheran Church in Laurel.
Phyllis is survived by three sons, Ronald (Laura) Graverholt of Spring Creek, NV, Robert (Pamela) Graverholt of Olathe, KS, David (Terri) Graverholt of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight step- great-grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Hansen of Norfolk, Norma Hansen of Wayne, Mary Ann (Wayne) Siebert of Norfolk, and Shirley (Mike) Bruce of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Jim (Deb) Hinrichs of Chillicothe, MO and George (Audrey) Hinrichs of Laurel; nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carsten in 2007; sister, Lois Hinck, infant brother, Carroll Raymond, brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Martin Hansen, Lloyd Hansen, Martin Graverholt, Darrel (Carrie) Dahl, and a niece, Marjean Sack.
She passed away Saturday at Heritage Of Bel-Air in Norfolk.
