    "Earl C. North died September 26, 2018 at Lebanon Center Genesis in Lebanon, NH. Earl was born October 11, 1928 in Newport, RI a son of Earl and Bertha (Tingley) North.
    He graduated from Wickford High School in North Kingstown, RI Class of 1945. Earl immediately joined the Army and was stationed in post-war Germany, then served in the Korean War, and again was stationed in Germany, this time as a member of the 7th Army Symphony.
    Upon his honorable discharge he used the GI Bill to attend Capital University in Columbus, OH, majoring in bassoon performance. This is where he married his soul mate Mae Mararian on July 7, 1956. They had met when they were both stationed at Ft Leavenworth, KS.
    Earl went on to pursue a masters in music performance from Indiana University and later the University of Vermont. The family moved to Canaan in 1963. He arranged and published music for class use. He also taught private lessons at the Upper Valley Music Center and taught at Newport and Mascoma Valley Regional High Schools.
    Earl continued to serve his country in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Sergeant 1st Class in 1993. Mae died in 2017.
    Earl was an instrumental member of Rails to Trails, helping organize and convert old railways into usable trail throughout the state. He was a friend of Cardigan Mountain. Earl was passionate about music and was a member of two local quartets the Cadenza Woodwind Quartet and Sunflower Quartet and several area Chamber Groups.
    Earl is survived by daughter Bonnie M. North of Milwaukee, WI, son Carl "Chris" North of Newport, RI, and sister Margaret Kenyon of North Kingstown, RI."
