"Derek Ralph Nelson, who was born to Ralph and Sharon Nelson on December 17, 1962 in Provo, Utah, passed away peacefully at home the evening of July 9, 2007. At the time, Derek was surrounded by family and friends. While attending Brigham Young University after serving a mission for his church in Buenos Aires, Derek met Heidi Hamilton, and they were married August 17, 1985. Derek is survived by his wife Heidi and their six children: Ryan, Stephanie, Lara, Hannah, Nathan, and Spencer; as well as his father Ralph and three sisters: Kathleen Hutchison, Phyllis Anderson, and Barbara Spencer. After graduating from BYU with a master's degree in Accounting in 1987, Derek served as a CPA in the Seattle area for several years before becoming a Senior Vice-President at Key Bank He was active in his church and community and a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts (Derek is an Eagle Scout). For the many who loved him and who will miss him, services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, July 14, 2007, at the Tacoma Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at S. 12th and Pearl in Tacoma. Following the services and a reception, burial will be at Haven of Rest Memorial Park in Gig Harbor. Arrangements by Haven of Rest."
