Esther Anne Hakeman, 95, of White, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at the Brookings Hospital.
She was born Dec 25, 1905, to Chris and Anna Fredrikka (Nielsen) Thompson at White. She attended Argo No. 24 country school.
She married Clay Hakeman on May 25th, 1927, at Brookings.
Through the years they lived on farms in Afton, Argo and Sterling townships. The moved into White in 1961, Her husband died June 20, 1982. She moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living in Brookings in July 2000 and to the White Healthcare Center in December 2000.
She was a member of the Pioneer Lutheran Church and White Senior Citizens.
Her survivors include four children: Gordon Hakeman of Yorba Linda, Calif., James Hakeman of Lake Norden, Dennis Hakeman of Placentia, Calif., and Jayne DeBoer of Sioux Falls; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services begin at 11. a.m. Tuesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White and preceding service at the church on Tuesday,
Memorial gifts may be directed to the Pioneer Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund."

James Odell Hakeman was born February 27, 1937 in Brookings, South Dakota to George "Clay" and Esther (Thompson) Hakeman. He attended school in White, South Dakota and graduated from high school in 1955. Jim served in the United States Air Force from November of 1956 to November of 1960. He was united in marriage to June Lee on April 10, 1965 in Hayti, South Dakota. Jim was employed at the White Creamery prior to coming to Lake Norden. While living in Lake Norden he was employed by the Lake Norden Creamery and Drying Plant from 1963 until 1971 when it became Land O Lakes. He continued to work for Land O Lakes until retiring in 1998. Jim died on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 75 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Jim enjoyed puzzles, golfing and sports in general. Most of all he enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball and also enjoyed his cat.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife June of Lake Norden; two sons, Douglas of Brookings, Stacy and his wife Chrissy of Lake Norden; one daughter Dawn Nelson and her husband James of Hutchinson, KS; five grandchildren, Sara, Karen and Austin Hakeman and Lauren and Hayden Nelson; two brothers, Gordon Hakeman and his wife Terry of Yorba Linda, CA, Dennis Hakeman and his wife Pat of Placentia, CA; one sister Jayne DeBoer of Sioux Falls; one sister-in-law Bonnie Hakeman of Madison, SD; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Clinton and two nephews Kent Hakeman and Ryan Cooley.

His funeral service will be 1:30 P.M., Monday, September 10, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Visitation will be from 4PM to 6PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden. Burial will in at Pleasant View Cemetery at Hayti.

"Kevin E. Hakeman, age 62, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown.
Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. with a 'Time for Sharing' at 7:00 p.m.

Kevin was born on September 23, 1951, in Volga, SD, to Clint and Bonnie (Elverud) Hakeman. / He attended and graduated from Madison High School. / He then attended Dakota State College in Madison where he got his undergraduate degree. /
He obtained his Master's Degree at Northern State College.
On May 29, 1976, Kevin married Joan Muth in rural Madison, SD. The couple moved to Watertown where Kevin taught at Grant/Jefferson School for twenty-one years.
In 2005, he was diagnosed with Huntington's disease. / Throughout his illness, he had a positive outlook and lived his life courageously.
Kevin was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He was also a lifetime and active member of the Elks.
He enjoyed hunting. / He also enjoyed morning coffee with his friends. / His grandchildren brought joy into his life.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of Watertown, SD; children: Travis (Jen) Hakeman of Sioux Falls, SD, and Megan Hakeman of Watertown; two grandchildren: Mason and Harlen; his mother, Bonnie Hakeman, of Madison, SD; and two brothers: Keith (Diane) Hakeman of Rapid City, SD, and Kim Hakeman of Madison, SD."
