    Søn af Loyd Heiden (1896-1970) og Evelyn Alice Kilmer (1902-1947).

    Kendal was born on November 1, 1930 at Clark, SD, the son of Lloyd and Evelyn Alice (Killmer) Heiden. He attended country schools in Clark County for a time until the family moved to the State of Washington where they lived for about 3 years. They returned to Clark County, north of Clark, where he continued his education and then graduated from Thorp High School on May 19, 1949. He moved to Minneapolis to attend telegraph school. While living in Minneapolis he worked as a pin setter at a local bowling alley.
    He was inducted into the United States Army in February of 1952 and served his country until his honorable discharge in January of 1954. While in the Army he was stationed in Germany. After his discharge he returned to South Dakota and married Evelyn Peterson on June 6, 1954 in the Grace Lutheran Church at Watertown. Following their marriage the couple has resided and farmed in Thorp Township. Kendal became a resident of the Golden Living Center at Clark in November of 2008. They have shared over 55 years of marriage.
    Besides his love of the land, Kendal also had a fondness of operating a Ham radio, being a member of the Lake Area Radio Club, he also had served as Thorp Township treasurer for over 20 years, had been a member of the Thorp School Board and also served on the board of the Garden City Elevator. In earlier years he enjoyed hunting, especially pheasants. His love of the land and working the ground was his place in life, although he and Evelyn did manage to take a few trips during their 55 years - trips to Yellowstone, Winnipeg, Canada, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, the Black Hills and for their 50th wedding anniversary, they went to Hawaii.
    He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Clark and the Smith-Cagley American Legion Post #60 of Clark.
    Grateful for having shared in his life is his wife, sons, 2 granddaughters, a brother, sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents,and brothers-in-law, Merlyn "Pete" Peterson and Ivo Goedde.
