  "VON ESSEN. Dorothy A. (Davis) von Essen, 83, of Newington, died Sunday (July 17, 1994) at Hartford Hospital. She was the widow of Phillip von Essen. Born in Hartford, Mrs. von Essen lived in the Hartford area and in Newington for many years, and was a member of Broadview Community Church, Hartford, since 1920. She retired from Hartford Insurance Group after 25 years of employment, and she played the piano for Jane Hart for five years and Maxine Mills for three years. She was an active member of the Newington Senior Citizens and AARP No. 697. Her survivors include her granddaughter, Dominique von Essen McKean of San Diego, Calif.; several nieces and nephews, including Carolyn Fish and Russell V. Davis, both of Stamford, Mary von Essen of New Britain, Carl von Essen of Illinois, and Peter von Essen of Michigan. Mrs. von Essen was predeceased by a son, Donald P. von Essen; and a brother, Russell Davis. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 1 p.m., at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, ..."
