S. MORTENSEN has been engaged during the past two weeks in beautifying the parlors of his photographic studio, on the second floor of Cameron's block, and the apartment now presents a fine appearance. Mr. Mortensen certainly shows his artistic ability in the selection of decorations for his rooms and has the satisfaction of knowing that they appear very neat.
DIES ON ST. PAUL TRAIN
_____
S. Mortensen Expires While
Enroute from Visit
in Milwaukee.
Sophus Mortensen, one of Iron Mountain's most highly esteemed citizens, died on the St. Paul passenger train near Coleman, Wis., shortly after midnight last Monday morning. Death was due to the breaking of a blood vessel in the head. Mr. Mortensen was fifty-two years of age and had resided in the city for twenty-seven years. Until about seven years ago, he conducted a photograph gallery in the Cameron building. Ill health compelled his retirement. For a year after his retirement he held the position of poor commissioner for the Iron Mountain district and for a few months was engaged in business in Chicago. For the past three years his illness prevented an active business engagement. About a week ago, feeling in better health, he left for Milwaukee, where he expected to become associated with his brother, M. Mortensen, in the shoe business. On Sunday he had a relapse and decided to return to Iron Mountain. Enroute his condition became alarming, and at Elkhart Lake a physician was summoned. At Coleman he departed this life, his death being a peaceful one. Mr. Mortensen is survived by a wife and two sons, the eldest, Leo, holding a clerkship in the post-office [sic – post office], also by three brothers and one sister. He was a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, and for a number of years was engaged in the theatrical profession. He was a well educated, cultured gentleman. The relatives are assured of the sympathy of the community. The funeral will be held today from the family home.
