- "Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent
Tuesday, 12 June 1923
C. E. Lykke, a resident of Grand Island for over a half century, and highly respected citizen, passed away at the home of his son, Albert, seven miles north of this city, at 2:30 p.m. Monday, death resulting from senility and resultant complication. Due to his advanced years, he had been in a very enfeebled condition for some time past. Mr. Lykke was born in Denmark on January 14, 1841, being aged 82 years, 4 months and 27 days at the time of his demise. When 14 years of age, he left home in an effort to make his own way in the world, and has ever since that time been self-sustaining. He came to America in his early manhood, locating first in Chicago, where he resided for a time. Later, he went to Franklin Grove, Ill., where he spent three years, coming to Nebraska in the spring of 1871. Shortly after his arrival in this state, Mr. Lykke came to Grand Island, first engaging in the business of his profession, that of blacksmithing. Later he was engaged for a number of years in the implement business. For a number of years past he had led a retired life, and more recently had spent a portion of his time alternately at his home in this city, being cared for by his daughter, Mrs. A. L. Bradstreet, and at the home of his son, Albert, north of this city.
Surviving him are two sons, Albert and Roy C., of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. A. L. Bradstreet, also of this city. His wife preceded him in death in 1911, as has also a daughter, Ella, and a son, Emil. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m., from the residence of A. L. Bradstreet, 715 West Third street, Rev. C. B. Harman, of the English Lutheran church, officiating. Burial will be made in the Grand Island cemetery." (Gengivet i findagrave.com)
