- "Deloris Chilson, daughter of William and Elvina (Erickson) Chilson, was born July 30, 1916 in Roberts County, SD. She grew up in that area and attended Roberts County Country School. As a young women she worked at a facility that cared for needy elderly.
In July of 1940 she was united in marriage to Peter Hortness in Rock Rapids, IA. The couple then farmed in the Peever and Wilmot, SD areas for many years. After they retired the couple moved into Peever. Peter died on February 8, 1979. In 1996 Deloris moved to Hartford, SD.
She was a very active past member of the Peever Lutheran Church and presently a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, but her life centered on her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Her door was always open to friends and family.
Her parents, brothers, Byron and Darwin, and sisters Verna Bunde, Jeanne Leiseth and Avis Wilson, also preceded her in death.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Eugene (Marilyn) Hortness , Gettysburg, SD, Marilyn (Jerry) Siemonsma , Hartford, SD, four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her brother, William R. (Jerene) Chilson, Watertown, SD, sisters, Lorraine Rieck, Graceville, MN, Wilma Sundheim, Beardsley, MN, and brothers in-law, John Wilson, Watertown, and Milton Leiseth, Sisseton, SD.
Deloris' family thanks you for your support and presence today. An invitation is extended to join them at the church for refreshments and fellowship following the committal service."
