- "Robert Earl Frerichs (84), Lincoln, Nebraska, was born January 28, 1934, at their farm home near Mt Clare, Nebraska. He passed away on October 25, 2018, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 84.
He began his education at age 5 in a one-room schoolhouse near Mount Clare, Nebraska. He graduated from Nelson High School and served in the army for two years. He received a Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and worked as an accountant for physicians for 30 years. Robert married a young widow, Roberta L’Heureux and her two small children in 1964. He adopted Larry and Donna, and their union added Barbara. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together and enjoyed square, round and ballroom dancing and traveling.
Bob enjoyed his extended family, their good neighbors, and maintaining a meticulous home and yard. He enjoyed flowers, the millions of butterflies that visited each year, and all the beauty in nature. He was very proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s success and accomplishments.
Bob enjoyed old cars and old tractors. Frequently during small talk with new acquaintances he would tell them he married Bobbie because she had a 1962 Ford. It was black and white with a red interior. He added extra chrome—pretty sharp! That car was a perfect fit for him. At 6’5” he drove it while wearing a dress hat comfortably for over 30 years.
As empty nesters, Bob and Bobbie would dance 2-5 nights per week. At a three hour dance, they would dance at least 90% of the songs. They attended several weekend polka fests and square dance conventions. After retirement, they enjoyed two weeks of barn dancing each fall at Silver Dollar City during their Harvest Festival. They gained many special friendships with fellow dancers.
On September 20, 2018, they were able to dance a few songs by the Bobby Layne Orchestra at Legacy Terrace helping to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Legacy Terrace. They have been part of the Legacy Terrace family for almost two years.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta; children, Larry (Marcia) Frerichs, Donna (Doug) Dudney, Barbara (Doug) Stephens; grandchildren, Dan (Candiace) Dudney, Jenna (Brian) Harclerode, Julie (Alex) Terry, Nicholas (Caitlyn) Stephens, David Dudney, Stephen Frerichs, Allison Frerichs; brother Gene (Twilla) Frerichs.
