- "Vickie M. Bren, 59, of Brookings, SD died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Brookings Health System, Brookings, SD. Funeral Services have been set for 10:30am Thursday, December 22, 2011 at First Lutheran Church, Brookings, SD. Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Rude's Funeral Home, Brookings, SD. Vickie M Chaulsett was born August 8, 1952 to Leland and Marie (Lavin) Chaulsett Sr. in Brookings, SD. She attended Brookings School District and graduated from Brookings High School. Vickie was united in marriage to Glen Bren on January 4, 1974 in Brookings, SD. She worked after graduating high school at the United Retirement Center. The majority of her working years were spent at Coast to Coast Warehouse as an Order Filler, with a few years at the 3M Company, finishing with the Marriot Food Service at South Dakota State University. This followed with two back surgeries which left her disabled in 1997 and unable to work. Vickie was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer one year ago, December 2010 and was facing the challenge head on with no fear of the future. She was a very strong, faithful caring woman. A loving wife, mother and the one and only "Nanny", to her two grandchildren, who were the love of her life. She enjoyed the outdoors with her flowers, if she planted it; it had no choice but to grow. She attended all activities, both in and out of town that her grandchildren were in. Football, track and field, baseball, swimming, volleyball, basketball, softball, oral interp., choir concert, church programs, and last Tuesday, Mia's Christmas Band Concert. She loved playing UNO and also baking with her grandchildren. She will be desperately missed in there growing-up years. Vickie is survived by her husband of 38 years, Glen of Brookings, SD; her only daughter, Melissa Bren-Phillips of Brookings, SD; two grandchildren, JD and Mia Marie of Brookings, SD; one brother, Tom Chaulsett (Judy) of Brookings, SD; one brother-in-law, Don Bren (JoAnne) of Brookings, SD; a very special nephew and his family, Cory Chaulsett (Jessica) and their children Trevor and twins, Troy and Tommie of Balaton, MN; her best friends, Bob and Margaret Wilson of Brookings and Sharon Moad of Brookings, SD; "Like a Daughter", Sheila Stotz (Jon) of Sinai, SD; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and one very endearing Pastor, Pam Wells of Brookings, SD. Vickie was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Olaf and Edna Bren; a brother, Leland "Ole" Chaulsett Jr., a sister, Evelyn Hanson and one brother-in-law, Dale Bren."
