- "Former alderman George R. Fitchett, 68, 3808 Sheridan Road, died Saturday (May 30, 1992) in St. Catherines Hospital.
Born Oc. 1, 1923 in Kenosha, he was the son of Artur and Madge (Nyland) Fitchett.
After attending schools in Kenosha, he joined the U.S. Army during World War II, attaining the rank of master sergeant.
On May 13, 1950, in Kenosha, he married the former Joyce Gourley.
He worked in the Quality Control Department of American Motors for 32 years, retiring on Nov.1, 1982. Since May 1, 1991, he and his wife have owned and operated the In or Out Cafe, 5722, Sixth Ave.
For 28 years, he served as alderman of the Seventh District and came to be regarded as the dean of the Kenosha City Council. He was a candidate for mayor of Kenosha in 1980 and also a candidate for the Kenosha County board and for the justice of peace. In march of 1990, he was honored for his many years of public service with a banquet at which the former Kenosha mayor John Bilotti acted as master of ceremonies.
While at American Motors, he was the first to receive that company's Ambassador of the Year Award.
He was a member and usher at St. James Catholic Church, president of the Mid-West Radio Players, and served the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way, St. Vincent de Paul Society and various labor groups.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ryland, Kenosha, and Mayo, Racine; two daughters, Mrs Larry (Faith) Angelici, Kenosha, and Mrs Michael (Dawn), Varnes, Caledonia; a brother, Joseph, Kenosha; three sisters, Marguerite Kelps and Virjean Fitchett, both Kenosha, and Mary Jane Johnson, San Jose, Cal., and five grandschildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Arrangement are being handled by the Bruch Funeral Home"
