- "Alfred A. Anderson, 87, of Third St, Newport, R.I. died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Village House Nursing Home. Born on April 14, 1929 in Newport, R.I., he was the son of the late Alfred O. Anderson and Katherine (McDuff) Anderson. He was the husband of Anna (Groux) Anderson and the late Jean H. (North) Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his brother Donald Anderson, son Alfred C. Anderson, grandson Mark K. Green, and son-in-law Ralph Jennings.
He is survived by his children Victoria (Anderson) Gollis (Martin) of Newport, R.I. Loren (Anderson) Jennings of Coventry, R.I., Sister Barbara (Anderson) Dingwall, of Newport, granddaughters Michelle Bingaman (Dale) of Southington, CT , Jennifer Lamothe (Keith) of Coventry, and daughter-in- law Mineko Green of Suwa City, Japan. Mr. Anderson is also survived by eight great grandchildren. Mr. Anderson retired from the Newport School Department after a long career maintaining Newport schools. He enjoyed reading with a keen interest in both Newport and world history. Alfred loved volunteering for the soup kitchen for over thirty years at the Calvary Methodist Church. He enjoyed his neighborhood, sitting on the porch and talking with everyone. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 200 Turner Road, Middletown, R.I. at 11:30 am. Burial will be private." (med portrætfoto)
