Elmer C. Lykke, 76, of 816 N. Greenwich, died tuesday, Sept 1, at a local nursing home. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church. the Rev. William Doran will officiate. burial will be at a later date at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Children’s Home or donor’s choice.
Mr. Lykke was born Dec. 24, 1915, at Grand Island, to Albert and Anna (Peterson) Lykke. He grew up in Grand Island and in 1933 graduated from Grand Island Senior High School. He attended the National Schools in California. He married Helen Mohr on Feb. 15, 1940, at Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island. He entered the U.S. Army on May 20, 1943, serving with the 257th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Co. Her served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and the Ardenes before being discharged on Nov. 30, 1945. After discharge he returned to Grand Island where he worked for International Harvester, McGuire Motor, Sorensen Body Shop and 16 years as an auto body instructor at Central Community College at Grand Island an Hastings. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 53, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries No. 378, Platt Duetsche, Liederkranz, Classic Wheels and he served for a term on the Grand Island City Council and was also on the Community Development Board.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, James of Phoenix, Ariz. and Donald of Mayer, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Wilma (Mrs. Earl) Searson of Omaha and Dorothy (Mrs. J. B.) Post of Amarillo, Texas.
