- " Services for Milan J. Meyer, 77, of Battle Creek will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church with burial in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the church under direction of Steffen Mortuary.
He died at his home Monday, June 2, 2008, after battling prostate cancer.
Milan was born on April 6, 1931, on his parents' farm south of Battle Creek. The son of Frank and Anna (Newwerk) Meyer, he was baptized on April 26, 1931, confirmed on April 2, 1944, at St. Peter's Heights Lutheran Church and attended their parochial school. He graduated from Battle Creek High School and then continued farming with his father.
He married Alice Marie Tarpening on June 10, 1951, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The couple continued farming the family farm until retiring in 1994.
Milan had been a member of St. Peter's Heights, where he served on various boards, and then currently was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he also had served on various church boards.
Milan is survived by his wife Alice Meyer of Battle Creek, their children Mary and Dan Coakley of Hastings, David and Kim Meyer of Battle Creek and Jim and Judy Meyer of Omaha; one sister, Mrs. George (Frances) Zohner of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin, Edwin and Franklin; one sister Hazel and one son in infancy
