Nekrolog |
3 feb. 1915 |
- "Soren C. Jensen died at his home in this city, on Friday, Jan. 29, 1915, after an illness covering several months, although he had been confined to his bed only two days.
Deceased was known as Soren Jensen, blacksmith, on account of others bearing the same name - - though not related - - and had been a resident of Blair for many years but was born in Denmark, and was 47 years old. Mr. Jensen leaves a widow and nine children, two of whom are married; they are Mrs. Nels Sorensen and Mrs. John Andersen, both of whom are residents of Washington county. His mother, one brother and five sisters also survive him, all living in Denmark. One cousin, C.S. Nielsen, lives in Blair.
The children at home are Oscar, William, Richard, Elmer, Harold, John and Adina.
The funeral was held Sunday in the Danish church and was largely attended. Members of the Danish Brotherhood conveyed the casket to the grave in the Blair cemetery.
Soren Jensen, a well known citizen of this city, died unexpectedly at two o'clock, Friday afternoon. The deceased had been a sufferer from stomach trouble for several years but a short time ago took a severe cold which developed into pneumonia and caused his death. Soren Jensen was born in Denmark and was a resident of this city for many years. He was about forty-eight years old. At one time he owned a blacksmith shop in this city, being rated as a good mechanic. Years ago he took an active interest in politics and was elected on the city council from the fourth ward. Mr. Jensen was insured in the Danish Brotherhood. Funeral services were held Sunday and burial was made in the Blair cemetery.

Soren Jensen, the blacksmith, died at his home, the first house on the right hand side beyond the big bridge over Cauble creek, last Thursday afternoon of heart trouble. He hadn't been well for two or three weeks but was up and around until the day before he died. He was taken bad Wednesday night and died at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The funeral was held at the Danish church at 12 o'clock Sunday, Rev. H.J. Kjoeller officiating.
He was born in Hyorring, Denmark, March 1st, 1868 and came to this country about 25 years ago, settling first up near Wayne, Neb. He was married there to Miss Mary Christiansen and they came to Blair shortly thereafter. Of this union ten children were born, nine of whom are now living, Mrs. Nels Sorensen, who lives south of town, Oscar, William, Richard, Adena, Harold, John and Elmer. C.S. Nielsen is a cousin and is the only relative in this county.
Mr. Jensen ran a shop near the Weinbrandt barn for many years, but had recently been working for Elis Lindstrom in the old Hoff shop. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood and carried a policy for $1,000. The Brotherhood members attended the funeral in a body and had charge of the ceremonies at the grave."
