- Emma Jacobsen Frid of John Clarke Nursing Home in Blenheim, Newport, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010 at the age of 92. Born in Vernsted, Denmark on May 29, 1918, she was one of thirteen children of Henry Jacobsen and Emilie (Larsen) Jacobsen.
She met her future husband, Tage Frid, before he headed to Iceland after Denmark was liberated in World War II. They were married November 30, 1946 until his passing in May of 2004.
Emma served as a board member and President of the Foster Center Library in Foster, RI. She dedicated her life to her husband, two children, extended family and friends. Her culinary skills and especially her traditional Danish Smorgasbord were the highlight of many gatherings.
Her husband Tage P. Frid, a grandson Nicholas Frid and nine of her siblings predecease her. Her son Peter Frid and his wife Kathy and a daughter Ann Randall and her husband Peter survive her. Also five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Kirsten Bak, Bodil Laursen, and Ceceillie Henriksen of Denmark and many nieces and nephews.
