In Unga, Charles was a deputy marshal for the federal government. He is a widower on the Unga 1930 federal census. In the early 1930s Charles married Rose "Dolly" (Boye) Whittaker. Charles died between 6 Dec 1935, when he left Unga on the U.S. Coast Cutter HAIDA for medical services in Seward and the 14 Dec 1935, when word was received in Unga that he had died at the Seward General Hospital.
