- "The family of Beth invites you to a celebration of her life on Sat., May 10 from 10:30-noon at the Campanile Center for the Arts. Beth was born on the Blue Lake Resort in Minocqua in 1924, a place she considered home all of her life. She lived in Castro Valley, California for thirty years, but returned to own and manage the resort on Blue Lake Island from 1974 – 1989. The resort is a designated Minocqua Landmark and has been in continuous operation by Beth’s family since 1923. Among her many firsts, Beth was the first college graduate in her family. She was also the family’s first teacher and spent many happy years teaching high school art in Hayward, California. Beth went on to get her Masters Degree in Art and when she retired from education pursued her own work as an artist. Her artwork took many best-of-show and first place ribbons in juried art events in both Minocqua and in Florida, where she wintered. She was most proud of her batik and watercolor work, some of which will be on display as a one-woman show at the Campanile celebration. Beth was also the first person in her family to travel the world. She visited ever inhabited continent during the ten years she took an annual trip abroad, loved this travel, and declared her favorite places to have been Italy, for its art, and South America for its juxtaposition of the ancient and modern worlds. Last, but not least, and perhaps her most impressive accomplishment, Beth was married for 71 years to her partner in this full life, Richard Gourley. Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Cleora (nee Grundy) Luedtke; twin sister, Gwen and brother, Don Luedtke. She is survived by her husband, Rick; daughter, Andrèe Graveley; sister, Audrey Despain; grandchildren, Mike (Claire) Graveley, Nicole (Paul) Graveley-Smith and Sarah Graveley; great grandchildren, Ben and Luke Graveley and Amelia and Aron Smith and nieces, Jennifer and Mary Jill.
