Peter fulgte i hans spor. Jane Michelsen, Michael Jensen, Birgitte Sindberg, Peter Hebsgaard, Stig Rahbek, Karsten Eriksen, Søren Overgaard, Hans Lindahl, Carsten Ingvordsen. | Gottschau, Peter (I15752)

"I don't know what Peter did between the time he came here in 1883 until he homesteaded in 1895. I have been told that some of the immigrants stayed around New York for awhile before coming out west. They needed a sponsor to come over here. Whether he was there, I don't know. He did work for about a year for a farmer not to far from where he homesteaded. He got his naturalization papers July 7, 1883. This is registered at the South Dakota Historical Society, Cultural Heritage Center, Pierre, South Dakota, Book 168, Page 88. It was a two step program and hr got his 2nd papers July 1895 as recorded in Book 170, Page 107. He was naturalized as "Peter Jensen". He homesteaded as Peter Jensen. This is recorded in Book 5 of Patents Page 216, Brookings County Courthouse, Register of Deeds, Brookings, South Dakota. The couple lived on the farm near White, South Dakota from 1895 until 1938. I remember growing up in that house on the farm with my parents, brother and grandparents all living there. Peter lost the farm during the depression, eventually my dad (Elmer) bought it back from the Insurance company that had it at the time. Peter was a blacksmith, farmer and had his own threshing machine. He would do harvesting for different neighbors. I know they had to both work hard with none of the conveniences we have now. She washed clothes on a washboard and churned their own butter. They were more self sufficient then we are now. They moved to the town of White, South Dakota when they retired. I would stay there at times. She was a special grandmother. She was also known as the religious one of the family." (Evelyn Heiden). Article, probably in the Brookings Register: "Mr. And Mrs. P.J.
