4006 | "SAN FRANCISCO -- No funeral services are planned for M.L. Bramson, the inventor of a heart-lung machine that has saved thousands of lives since it was introduced in 1971. Bramson died Thursday He was 85. His body, a family spokesman said, will be cremated and his ashes scattered at sea. Bramson was an engineer whose accomplishments included helping develop the world's first practical jet engine in England as well as devising machines that prolong human life. His heart-lung machine revolutionized medical science in 1971 by keeping a 19-year-old patient alive for 75 hours after his aorta was ruptured in an automobile accident. The young man recoverd and became the first human to be kept alive by a machine for so long and then go on to lead a normal life. Heart surgeons, who were previously hampered by conventional heart-lung machines that often complicated open-heart surgery, hailed Bramson's machine. In 1962, Bramson received the American Medical Association's prestigious Hektoen Medal for inventing the world's first automatic heart massager in 1961. He developed both machines while on the staff of San Francisco's Pacific Medical Center, where he worked until his retirement last year. Bramson was born in Copenhagen, the son of English parents. He grew up in England graduated from London University with an engineering degree. His long list of technical achievements began in 1936, when he helped in work that led to the development of the first practical jet engine. He came to the United States in 1943 as an English representative on the Lend-Lease program. Bramson is survived by his wife, Barbara, and three sons who live in England and Denmark." 4007 | "Sandra Dale Folkerts, 73, died at home with people who loved her by her side on July 24, 2010, after a brave and dignified fight with pancreatic cancer. Sandy was born in Blair, Neb., to Mary and Elmer Jensen on Jan. 14, 1937. Her first role in life was to be a big sister "Dude" to Larry and Paula, and friend and best cousins with Roma and Lila Jean. Mom's family meant the world to her, but she was soon busy raising her own family. Sandy spent her life loving and raising her children, through many trials and tribulations. She held several jobs throughout her lifetime but the only one that really mattered to her was being a mom to the seven of us. In 1984, she finally married her true love, Arthur Folkerts, and found her partner in all her endeavors. Together, they set an example of what the miracle of true love and hard work can accomplish. Each of us kids knew the true meaning of "home" because of their love. Mom was such a strong woman with a soft heart. She taught us to speak our minds when we needed to, to be true to ourselves and to always put the love of family first. Mom, we want you to know that each of us treasured our time with you. We all loved the way you "adopted" our friends as part of the family. Your heart always had room for one more. Thank you so much for all the memorable holidays and beautiful Saturdays. The memories of the music and laughter and warmth will carry us through. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mary; favorite aunt Ruth and uncle Johnny; beloved son Randy; baby brother Gary; and husband Arthur Folkerts. She is survived by son Rick (Donna) Folkerts; daughters, Leanne Berger, Tara Piersall, Susie Liebelt, Krissy Duenow (Danny Lester) and Tracy Folkerts; grandchildren, Caylon, Merill, Natalie, Jake, Derek, Jessica, Chelsea, Miranda and Sammi; great-grandchildren, Zoe and Lucas; sister, Paula (Tolbert) Carter and brother Larry (Mary Lee) Jensen. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com." 4021 | "Schneider, Edward F(aber) (b Omaha, 3 Oct 1872; d Santa Clara, California, 1 July 1950). Teacher, pianist, and composer. He received his early musical training at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California and with Louis Lisser in San Francisco. Later he studied with Xavier Scharwenka in New York (piano and composition), and Karl Heinrich Barth (piano) in Berlin. In 1901 Schneider joined the music faculty at Mills College and held the post until 1919. Schneider's principal form of musical expression was the programmatic symphonic poem. His musical language was conservative and exuded post-Wagnerian sentimental qualities. It was dominated by lyrical melodies, tonal harmonies with carefully resolved dissonances, and the judicious use of chromaticism. During the 1920's, especially, there were frequent performances of his works on the West Coast. Schneider composed incidental music to three San Francisco Bohemian Club "Grove" plays. his autograph compositions are held by the Music Library at the University of California at Berkeley. WORKS (selective list) Orch: Symphony "In Autumn Time," 1909-13; Legend of the Sargasso Sea, 1923; Nocturne, 1926; Thus Spake the Deepest Stone, 1927-34; Crossing the Lake, 1931. 4029 | "Seligmann er søn af grosserer Rudolf Seligmann (født 1829) og Sophie født Weil (født 1844).

She fought hard, always with family nearby or on a video chat. Ultimately, these medical issues overcame her. Sharon was born February 22, 1939, to George and Gladys (Beck) Earl in Juhl, MI. She attended Marlette High School in Marlette, MI, graduating in 1957. She then attended Grace School of Nursing, earning her RN in 1960, and worked as a nurse in Detroit, MI. On May 11, 1963, Sharon married Joseph John Zumwalde in Detroit, MI, and Sharon later left nursing to start and raise their family. She followed her husband Joe in his naval career that took them to assignments in San Diego, Hawaii, the Pentagon, and Cuba, before concluding his career at the Naval Recruiting station in Fargo, ND. Sharon later went back to school to be recertified as a RN and returned to work in the health field in Moorhead and later in Fergus Falls, MN after moving to Jewett Lake. Sharon has also held positions at NW Mutual in Fargo, and Nelson Ford and Otter Tail Credit Union both in Fergus Falls. Sharon loved her family, her home on Jewett Lake and watching golf and football – the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, and North Dakota State University Bison. Sharon was also a gadget gal, always interested in the latest technology. If there was a new widget or wingding, she wanted it. And Sharon was the self-proclaimed straw boss, always generous with advice on all matters, advice that will now sorely be missed. If love could have saved you, you would live forever. Sharon is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Roger) Lewis and Kathleen (David) Wahlberg; son, William (Linda) Zumwalde; grandchildren, Nicholas (Karis Hamilton) Lewis, Kyle (Savannah Thompson) Wahlberg, and Mallory (TJ Goulet) Shuck.
