A native of Michigan, Jim served as Princeton City Manager from 1980 until his retirement. Previously he was city manager of Oxford, N.C.; Cheboygan, Michigan; Red Bank, Tennessee; and Durand, Michigan. While Princeton City Manager he served as Regional Vice President of the International City Managers Association. World War II interrupted the pursuit of his civil engineering degree at Purdue University. He served in the South Pacific with the US Army 96th Infantry Division "Deadeyes" in Reconnaissance as Staff Sergeant. Although the Deadeyes earned a Presidential Unit Citation and he was awarded numerous medals for action in Leyte Gulf and Okinawa, Jim never wanted recognition for his service. He remained proud of the US Military and was District Commander of the West Virginia VFW and active with the Mercer County War Museum. Jim was also a Lions Club lifetime member, holding numerous offices. Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marian Haglund Juhl; daughter Karel Juhl Fulton and son-in-law Bill Fulton of Michigan; grandson USAF Major Toby (Ewa) Pellenz of New Hampshire; granddaughter Amy Pellenz of Nevada; and great-grandchildren Sara and Gabriel. He was predeceased by his son, James L Juhl III; parents James L and Dora (Hubbell) Juhl; and sisters Nancy Carrick, Beverly McDonald, and Ina Patti Juhl. 2577 | "Janet Staatz Mortensen - Jan is at peace. Her life and Faith are the causes. Sumner, Daffodil Princess, and WSU were early milestones. Meeting Bob on Waikiki Beach in 1955 led to a name change, and after 58 years of marriage her positive impact on others remains as potent as ever. While raising 3 children, she became involved in Education, leading to a teaching career in Special Education. In retirement, Hospice Volunteering became a natural outlet for her continuous giving to others. Flower gardening and arranging qualified as genuine passions at their Henderson Inlet home. She eschewed the deserved label "Gourmet cook" from family and friends but was comfortable with Bob's "Queen of leftovers" sobriquet. The patterns in her life's journey were consistent and inspiring. Jan was last in line of the Stan and Connie Staatz family from Sumner, being predeceased by her brothers, Wally and Bill. Immediate family survivors are husband, Bob; sons, Paul, Bill, and families; and daughter, Nancy. A funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lacey, WA at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 22, 2014, with a reception following at the church. | Bertelsdatter, Marin (I1051)
