1415 | "Don Claude Fieldsted was born to Dorothy Leora Law and George Edwin Fieldsted on June 22, 1921, in Bonita, Duchesne County, Utah and passed from this life on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, in Farmington. Don was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 72 years and eight months, Belva Thacker; his parents; his step-father, Ronald Farnsworth; his sisters, Alice Fieldsted (died at birth), Lola (Ivan) Street, Beatrice (Jess) Christenson and Georgia (Ben) Lyons; brothers, George E. Fieldsted (died at birth), Edwin (Beatrice) Farnsworth and Rex (Eloise) Farnsworth; and great-grandson, Garrett Lloyd Fieldsted. He leaves his brothers, Max (Nedra)Farnsworth, Lewis (Veloy) Farnsworth and Lamar (Hazel) Farnsworth; son, Dennis Don (Rose) Fieldsted of Waterflow; daughters, Sherry Ann (OT) Allen of Sumiton Ala., Glenda B. (Brent) Brady of Kirtland and Dorothy Gayle (Ray) Abbott of Rio Rancho; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren, to celebrate his life and mourn his passing. Living in Mountain Home Utah, Don grew up on a farm at the foot of the High Uintah Mountains. His early years were spent taking care of the farm animals, milking cows, growing and harvesting crops and, on most occasions, attending school. At the age of 19, he married his beautiful bride, Belva, on Thanksgiving 1940. Sherry Ann was born in Roosevelt, Utah, on Nov. 9, 1942. On Feb. 10, 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as an Airborne Engineer. Don spent one year training in the states then was stationed in Calcutta, India, in the India China Burma area. Dad left the military as a Sergeant on Jan. 18, 1946. He drove a dump truck while constructing Anderson Dam in Idaho after he returned from the service and then bought a farm with milk cows just outside Roosevelt, Utah. On Dec. 29, 1947, Dennis was born in Roosevelt, Utah. While on the farm and working for Gulf Oil Company Glenda was born March 10, 1951. Milking cows farming and working in the oil field was very difficult,t and so the farm was sold and the family moved to Provo, Utah, so Don could work in the steel industry. On Nov. 8, 1956, Dorothy was born in Provo, Utah. The family moved back to the Uintah Basin and then in May of 1957, they moved to San Juan County and lived a few months in Fruitland, before moving to Farmington where they lived until the spring of 1964, where they bought a house and several acres of orchard across the street from the LDS Church in Kirtland. The residence was their happy home for 50 years. There was no other place in the world that either Don or Belva wanted to live. While in New Mexico Don worked for Gulf Oil as a pumper until he was hired by Crown Central Petroleum Company. His job at Crown Central was supervising the company's production south of Bloomfield, and he did that until he retired. Dad never was one to set around and he continued to work as long as he was able and worked into his 80s for Four Corners Construction Company. Dad loved animals and he raised good horses and was a member of the New Mexico Breeders Association and was rewarded each time one of the horses won on the track as a breeder. He and his many friends from the oilfield, for years, took horses and went fishing in the mountains above Vallecito Lake in Colorado. Later, as his grandsons became old enough, he did the same with them. He was active in the LDS Church and served many callings, including Bishop and Stake Patriarch. The ability that he had to love and his kindness to others, as well as him being a true gentleman, endeared him to those around him. He will be sorely missed on this earth and greatly appreciated in heaven. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 473 Road 6100 in Kirtland. Funeral services for Don will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland, with Bishop Marion Wells conducting. Burial will follow at the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery, Road 6575 in Kirtland, with full military honors provided by VFW Post #2182. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all relatives and friends who were so kind and supportive during this time. Your kindness will always be remembered. (Holbek & Brun) | Drefeld, Mogens (I3856)
