    Helen C. Lykke, 89, of grand Island died Friday, March 21, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center.
    Funeral services will be at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gollaher Chapel. the Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
    There will be no visitation. Mrs. Lykke’s body was cremated.
    Helen Careline Lykke was born Jan. 30, 1914, to Henry and Martha (Grotz) Mohr in rural Hall County on her grandparents’ farmstead seven miles north of Grand Island.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer.
    Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Lykke of Winnemucca, Nev., and James and Katheryn Sue Lykke of Chandler, Ariz., and a brother, Earl Mohr of Cairo.
    Other survivors include two grandchildren, Holly Lykke and Troy Lykke.
    She attended Grand Island Senior High and was a graduate of the Grand Island Business College. She then worked in the office of Fairmont Creamery.
    She was united in marriage to Elmer C. Lykke on Feb. 15, 1940, in Grand Island. The couple lived on the eastern coast for a short period while her husband prepared to serve in the war. Once he was deployed she returned to Grand Island, and was employed by the Federal Housing Court during World War II, helping with housing assistance for the workers of the ordinance plant.
    In addition to being a wife and a mother, she was a Red Cross volunteer and also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital for many years. Mr. Lykke preceded her in death in 1992.
    She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Erma Reinecke and Agnes Browne.
